What type of section start? One would assume that a page number in the footer would reflect the heading number at the bottom of the page, but apparently this is a false though reasonable assumption. Hello, I’ve got a strange issue that I believe is related to conflicting multilevel lists in a large word document. Basically I have multiple chapters broken into the appropriate sections.
All of my sub headings are working correctly e. The Navigation pane shows the correct Numbering for each section e. However, the first page of each chapter, after chapter 1, is showing the wrong chapter number in the page number only. Where it should say it shows After the first page the numbering is correct e. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.
I have the same question 9. Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Suzanne S. Barnhill MVP. How satisfied are you with this reply?
Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. What type of Section Breaks are you using to create each Section? If you want to send me a copy of the file, I will investigate the issue.
Thanks for the quick responses! As for the types of breaks I have a combination throughout the document because of the variety of formatting constraints. Each chapter starts on an odd page so the break at the end of the previous chapter is a Odd page section break.
The heading is then centered at the top of the page followed by a continuous section break because everything else has to be in columns. As I said the strange thing is all the other “references” back to that level of the list show up correctly.
It’s only the first page of the chapter that is off. In reply to Suzanne S. Barnhill’s post on January 2, Thanks for the reply.
The break previous depending on the chapter is either a next page or odd page section break. I’ve even tried piling breaks on top of breaks and the only thing I can manage to do is mess up the numbering for the subsequent sections. That’s very odd, then. These are autonumbered headings, and you’ve used “Include chapter number” in the page number, specifying that heading level?
Barnhill’s post on January 3, Tell me about it! Yes I have. In fact the following section footer inherits from the previous and that one is working correctly. Worst case I will just manually change those page numbers at the end of writing the document.
I was just hoping someone had experienced the problem before. Thanks for taking the time though! This site in other languages x.
